Welcome to Karl-Tövåsen’s living shieling!

Take the opportunity to experience one of the last real, operating living shielings. Dating back to the 17th century. It is a piece of cultural heritage, with cows grazing freely in the woods, the milk of which we use to make our dairy products with ancient artisan traditions. The products are available for sale on request. The shieling is also a home to horses, calves, pigs, chickens, rabbits and more. Here you can enjoy a cup of delicious hot coffee made from water from our own spring. Enjoy your coffee with a “fäbodsmörgås”, a shieling sandwich with homemade butter and cheese, or other delicacies.

We offer guided tours of the shieling twice a day, included in the entrance fee, at 12.30 pm and 3 pm.

On most days you also get to see how we churn butter and make whey butter.

When visiting us, you pay an entrance fee on site. As a receipt, you will receive a metal button which you can use as many times as you like for the rest of the season.
Entrance fee: Adults SEK 100. Children 2–15 years SEK 50. (Note! Cash only!)

The shieling is open to
visitors 28 June–11 August

Friday–Sunday from 12.00 pm –4.00 pm.

Useful information

Due to infection risks and the fact that our cows associate dogs with wolves and can become aggressive, please leave your pets in the car or at home.

As mobile phone coverage is poor, it is safest to bring cash with you when you visit us in the forest. Swish may work on some days. We do not accept debit cards.

You are welcome to enjoy all the food and snacks we offer on our premises. You may not bring your own picnic basket, but outside the area there are tables where you can have lunch with your own provisions.

As we are staying at the shieling all summer long, we appreciate that you as a visitor respect the opening hours. If you want to make sure that a certain product is available, reserve it by texting +46-70-232 65 25 a few days before your visit.

Thanks to you as a visitor, the shieling has a chance to live on. We look forward to welcoming you!
